Warners Bros discussion!

After looking at the case studies discovering the majority of our trailer influences were produced by Warners Bros Pictures, we discussed whether it would be ideal for our teaser trailer.

We understand that Warners Bros films are highly mainstream and usually successful as they are such a large and well known production company. Members of our groups associate Warner's Brothers for comedys or children films such as; Cats & Dogs.  Nevertheless, after researching even more we discovered that invest in majority of different genres, thus we agreed to include their company logo at the beginning of our teaser trailer amongst our own company logo.

After discussing this I researched different intoductions in films of Warner Bros and found this one in which I think will work really well (without the Halcyon Company logo) :)  I think this is appropiate for us as it flickers resembling the idea of the clip in our trailer of Ruth and the flickering light :)

Production Logo Review

After reviewing our 'Dreams' production title created in 'i type', i came to the conclusion that the colour and font of the text was a little too characteristic/cartoonist  for the style of our movie genre, horror.  I feel that we should go back and research into a range of different fonts and choice one better suited to horror and our teaser trailer.

Also we had a few people look at our production title and asked them to give us there honest opinion.  The main feedback we received was that the name of the production company we used didn't fit the style or feel of our film.  Once loading the clip of 'Dreams Productions' up on to 'Youtube', our group watched it back a few times together and agreed that the word 'Dreams' did not correspond with the feel of the film.  In fact it translated the exact opposite.  In addition, keeping the audience in tact and in full focus with the teaser trailer is very important to us, as we need to entice the target market to come and view the film once it is out on the big screen.  For best results of this we shall take time to find a name that best suits our films style and not lose the viewers.

Location shots

Here is a movie of Location Shots in which we took that we found appropiate for parts of our teaser trailer.
Each shot explains what it will be used for and how it would be presented using central titles. This movie was created in iMovie in which we edited and added the titles.

The last shot shown without credits due to problems with iMovie however, we purposely flimed that the clip because we liked the flickering of the lights. This is also experimented with the previous location (image before the clip of the corridor) in which we will film Ruth for her first appearance.

Titles Evaluation

Our 'Dreams' Production logo that we have created in photoshop and livetype, i feel is quite cartoon like and therefore does not quite match our film genre, horror.  Although the movement effects we have added to the text works well, I am thinking of going back into the making process of this and adjusting the font and colour.  We asked some of our class members what they thought about our production title in relation to our teaser trailer and they all came up with the same ideas, in which they thought it did not like with the theme and infact contridcted the storyline of a nightmare.  From this we thought that the best thing was to recreate a title name and from there continue.  After much thinking I came up with the name "Running Inc." my train of thought for this was the old fashed ink in the diary and then the word incorporations (like a business) can be abreviated to inc.  Therefore our production company title had a double meaning.  From here we just need to create the animation for it.

Production Titles

We have been busy trying to design and create our Production Titles.
We decided on the name 'Dreams' because of our synopsis and the fact that 'Dreams' can either be good or bad, however, we wanted our titles to fit in with the genre of our teaser trailer. Using Live Type, we created an animation which also includes sound.

Here we added an effect 'flicker', which we thought made the animation suitable for our genre.

'Sunset' is the effect we used for the shadow as we felt it looked quite creepy behind the main title.

We used the font 'misproject' for the Titles.

We took print screens of Live Type to show how we made the animation.

Here is our final animation of our Production Titles;

Casing Shots

After discussing our key ideas for casting we found two girls (in year 7) which we believe will be appropiate for the roles.
I (Cindy) knew them from being apart of our school production 'Annie' whom share the role of Annie thus knew that they would work hard as the characters and well as are both good actresses. We gathered together at rehearsals and created a short questionnaire in which they fed back their opinions (after reading our storyboard) of their role and our teaser trailer.

Kira Self

This is Kira Self who will be playing the key character Ruth in which will be haunting the new student Lucy. We thought she would work well as this character as she has defined features which could work well with lighting and makeup; fair/pale skin and large eyes can work well with the makeup adding to a ghost like resemblance with the lighting.

Us: Hey Kira, what did you think of our storyboard?

Kira: I think it looks very interesting and spooky. I'm quite excited to be a part of this. I usually hate horrors so should be quite cool to be behind the scenes of one!

Us: How would you portray this character?

Kira: Well, she seems quite mysterious so I think to show this I'd try and act quite spooky maybe smile straight at the character or just stare directly at something? I dont know! I think the makeup and costume will really help and can't wait to film it!

Millie Zeroo

Millie Zeroo will be playing the part of Lucy, the new student who discovers the diary. She is extremely excited to play a part of our production as  she is a keen actress and matches the personality of which we believe Lucy would have; joyful and excited.

Us: Millie! What did you think of our storyboard?

Millie: It looks so cool! I'm so excited to be in a media production! I think it'll be quite fun to do especially as it's a horror. The way it's looks seems quite scary but it'll look really good. It will be really fun to film especially with Kira and can't wait to see it when it's finished!

Us: How do you think you will portray you'r character?

Millie: Well throughout the trailer I think I'm meant to be really scared obviously as they'd be a ghost haunting me around school! So maybe scream and act worried? The idea is creeping me out already as I know it will be filmed at night and that itself is pretty scary! But hope to do a great job!

Distribution; Case Studies!

A powerpoint presentation studing our influences and their distributers, in hope to find a appropiate production company in representation of our teaser trailer, along with our production company; 'Dreams Productions'.

Production Companies!

Before we begin to start filming our trailer, we believe it's distribution would need to be well chosen. After looking at other teaser trailers similar to our film we noticed that the majority of teaser trailers of the genre horror does not include a production company. However, 'The Oman' are represented by '20th century Fox'.

In order to make this decision I believe that we will need to look at the certain films in detail; case studies.

Animated Storyboard! :)

After creating, constructing and editing our storyboard we created an animation to make a clear indication as to what our teaser trailer would include. We did this by taking close pictures of our storyboard changing the images slightly to create movement of the drawings then uploading them on the computer. We understand that it is slightly shorter than expected however, we thought we'd add extra shots if neccessarly adding to the thrilling effect and hopefully a build up towards the end (similary to our influence of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). We wish to intrigue our audience into wishing to watch this film and thus believe we would have created an atmosphere for the audience inticipation.

Music played a large part in this. We used 'iMovie' sounds in hope to build this atmosphere using sounds such as' Heartbeat', 'Heavy Rain' and 'Scary Accent'. Certain sounds were repeated with the clips to add a building rhythm making an eerie effect and also for it to become abstract and distorted relating to our theme of paranormal horror.
Next we will look at different production companies for who will distribute our film and represent it under their name. The production company will be shown after the 'presents' certificate at the beginning of the trailer like traditional trailers include. We are interesting in making our own being appropiate to its theme but believe using a well known production company could be useful.

Title Ideas

We came up with a list of possible title ideas for our teaser trailer all linking to the theme of dreams, mystery and horror. To confirm which one was most appropriate we chose our three preferred titles and created a questionnaire and did a quick vote. The results are as follows:
